An event that brings together 250 leaders in the creation of Business Plans, sharing of national and international practices, and the initiation of the competition that will stimulate economic development. Event will be held in Argentina, in March of 2006.
The MIT Global Startup Workshop is an event that has been developing over the last 8 years with the objective of sharing information about Business Plans. It will initiate the competition and the improvement of the already existents plans.
The first event was in the 1998 in Cambridge (USA), then in Singapore, Seville, Melbourne, Bologna, Pekín, Cambridge (United Kingdom) and Adu DHABI (Arabia Saudi), establishing a long history towards obtaining the recognition of this initiative.
WHY IS THE EVENT GOING TO BE HELD IN ARGENTINA?
Thanks to the hard work of many institutions, it has been decided that the next event will be held in Argentina. Among these institutions are the MIT Club Argentina, the OSDE Foundation, several universities, such as CEMA, ITBA, San Andrés, Di Tella, and the IAE, private institutions, like Banco Río, non-profit organizations, like ALFA foundation, Endeavor Argentina, IECyT and EMPREAR, as well as, public institutions, such as Incubator Tecnológica BAITEC.
“Basically the MIT $50K GSW and MIT Club Argentina have led this initiative. The latter has been working with different institutions to make this event possible. MIT Club Argentina has been in charge of ascertaining funding and organizing local logistics and regional marketing, in conjunction with other institutions. The ALFA foundation, for example, has provided administrative support,” explained Richard Monte, Organizer 2006/MIT Club Argentina.
The OSDE foundation and a staff of students from Consorcio Emprendedor have been assisting with organizing the local logistics. The South American Business Forum (SABF) is facilitating the implementation.
With the help of the OSDE foundation, the workshop will be transmitted to 37 different locations within the country allowing for the participation of educational institutions and facilitating competitions in business plans and entrepreneur centers. The program will provide this opportunity to institutions within the country where there is poor economic development.
MARKETING AND PROMOTION:
Consorcio Emprendedor and regional organizations such as FOMIN and Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) of Organization of American States (OAS) are helping with marketing concerns.
YABT has been assisting with the promotion of the event, extensive regional networking, and the identification of potential participants. Also, they got the qualification as a “Silver Sponsor”, it was the result of the Sponsorship’s collaboration for young entrepreneurs around the region (The sponsorship is about the register’s participation payments).
There is also the opportunity for different organizations, institutions, or companies to help out with the event. In return, they will receive benefits, such as publicity during the event, recognition through links on the Web-site, an alliance with the MIT entrepreneurship framework, and access to an audience of more than 2000 people who share the common desire of entrepreneurship.
AUDIENCE:
This event will include 250 people from business plan competitions. Also in attendance will be leaders from prestigious international universities, namely MIT, Stanford University, Cambridge University, Oxford University, and universities in the Middle East, Asia, and Oceania, as well as, international entrepreneurs, venture capitalist and angel investors. This event will allow for the future creation of new projects in the region which will in turn lead to development and integral growth.
EXPECTATIONS:
“The expectations of those organizing the event and those who perform important roles during the event are based on the great impact that entrepreneurial development can have on the region. During the conference, two important aspects will be presented. These are the exchange of “Know How” and of “Networking.” The idea is to give the whole region access to the “Networking” or international partners from the business plan competitions including the benefits of “Know How,” stated Richard Monte.
THE NEXT STEP:
”The most important part of the event is the day after it,” Richard Monte commented. He explained further, “There are many steps to take and one of these is the creation of a network of international partners from the business plan competitions and of training centers for entrepreneurship to share knowledge, improve training, provide constant support, and the network operating at a regional level. MIT $50K GSW 2006 will generate many other activities, as well.”
