As part of the YABT investigation, the researcher and specialist in migration issues, Dr. Ana Roldan presented “Youth Migration in Latin America and the Caribbean” who developed that “Youth entrepreneurship is the real opportunity presented to young people; that engages them to participate towards higher levels of productivity and autonomy in society”. |
Director of Leadership and Political Affairs of YABT, Valerie Lorena, demonstrated the results of a regional research and analysis made by YABT. To illustrate that the Organizations should meet the needs of the youth in their communities and develop an action plan to provide access to the opportunities that will improve their quality of life, serving as an alternative to counter the desire to migrate.
The important element of this meeting were videotaped testimonies of young migrants and those at risk of migrating, these testimonies presented real and tangible perspectives of the issues faced by young people, whom find themselves torn between succeeding in their region or migrating.
The program “Youth on the Move "is a component of Migration and Development Program of the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI); that focuses on initiatives that stimulate local development and enables the youth who are at risk of migrating their access in to local markets. The Migration and Development Program is possible thanks to the support offered by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
Upon completion of the presentations, the OAS unveiled their permanent mission and other initiatives related to migration that take place in member countries and these can be evaluated to strengthen cooperation in this program.
