Participate in the Caribbean Sub Region Dialogue of the Young Americas Forum
In order to achieve a greater participation level among young people in the Caribbean in the Young Americas Forum, the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) in a collaborative effort with the OAS Summits of the Americas Secretariat and the National Secretariat for the Fifth Summit of the Americas will hold the Caribbean Sub Regional Dialogue on October 29 and 30 in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
The Dialogue is an official event of the Young Americas Forum and the Fifth Summit of the Americas Process. The Dialogue will create participatory channels for young people from the Caribbean to be involved in civil society’s contribution to the Summit. Participants will reflect and share how the theme of the 5th Summit of the Americas, “Securing Our Citizens’ Future by Promoting Human Prosperity, Energy Security and Environmental Sustainability” can be made relevant to young people and their needs, thus increasing the level of awareness on the importance of the development of young entrepreneurs as being a public policy priority.
Once finalized, the findings of the Caribbean Dialogue will be incorporated with decisions made in similar processes in North America, Central America and South America, the results of an online survey (enter the survey), and national youth reports to prepare a final report, which will be submitted to the Governments of the 34 Member States to the OAS through the Summits Implementation and Review Group (SIRG) meetings.
This event will bring together young entrepreneurs from various universities, business associations, youth organizations, national agencies, civil society and non-governmental organizations, international organizations, financial institutions and OAS Member States.
The Caribbean Sub Regional Dialogue expects more than 50 youth representatives, who will head the previously acquired recommendations of their compatriots. In this sense, young people who want to represent their society should be familiar with the themes of youth and the Summit of the Americas, have an interest in participating in local and international discussions, be a good communicator and leader for their country and reflect the maximum youth participation.
Attendees will discuss the following issues in relation to those proposed for the 5th Summit:
-
Enhancing Inter-American collaboration to increase economic stability, promote entrepreneurship, and encourage good business citizenship. How can young people help increase economic growth and regional economic security through entrepreneurship opportunities to reduce social inequalities, poverty, exclusion and marginalization?
-
Generating employment through creativity, innovation, and economic education to increase the competiveness of the Americas in the global economy. How can the private and public sectors encourage and formalize the emergence of new products and socially beneficial investment opportunities offered by young entrepreneurs.
-
Using technology to advance entrepreneurship and connect people. How can young entrepreneurs gain full access to the technologies that would enhance their investigation, competition, collaboration and business success skills in the global market?
-
Investing in new sources of energy for economic security and self sufficiency. How can the public sector, the private sector, and young entrepreneurs produce alternative forms of renewable energy to provide opportunities for sustainable, integrated development in the Americas?
The Summit of the Americas is a meeting of heads of state and government hosted by the Organization of American States and held in different cities of the American continents with the goal of forming a common strategy to solve the problems of the region.
