Concept
The idea is to produce a training workshop and competition designed to teach aspiring entrepreneurs how to start and operate a business. The purpose is to provide enterprising individuals an opportunity to fulfill their dream of becoming an entrepreneur by receiving training and a chance to win start-up capital for their business.
How does it work?
Contestants will be given access to a 2-day entrepreneurship-training workshop.
After the workshop, participants will compete in a flea market competition.
Contestants will have two weeks to come up with a product or service to sell at the flea market.
The competition will be held at a local flea market.
At the end of the competition, the contestant that generates the most money in sales will be declared champion of the competition and receive the grand prize.
What is the prize?
$3,500 business start-up capital
Details:
The start-up cost in each contestant’s business plan must not exceed $3,500.
Workshop and competition organizers must approve all contestants’ business plans as well as proposed products/services to be sold at the flea market.
Contestants of the competition cannot be current business owners:
The 2-day entrepreneurial training workshop is free for all Wards 7& 8 residents; however, each person must pay $35for his or her learning materials. Nonresidents of Wards 7 & 8 are required to pay a training fee of $29.99 for the workshop in addition to the learning materials.
Each person registering to be a contestant in the competition is required to pay a $35 entry fee.
Those persons, who wish to participate in the workshop but not the competition, will not be required to pay the competition’s entry fee.
All workshop participants and competition contestants must show proof of residence.
Non-residents of Wards 7 & 8 that wish to participate in the training and competition will be considered on case-by-case basis.
