October 23 concluded an intense week of training that brought together 28 women leaders and entrepreneurs from different provinces of Panama where participants gained knowledge and skills enabling them to create their own businesses and support other entrepreneurs in the creation and acceleration of their business in their respective markets.
The Workshop for Women Entrepreneurs was organized by the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) and the Organization of American States (OAS) in cooperation with the Golda Meir Mount Caramel International Training Center (MCTC) of Israel and the Business Accelerator of Panama (AEP) of the City of Knowledge Foundation. The workshop was held as part of the Nex Links program, a regional YABT program for the development of entrepreneurship support systems, which is funded by the Special Multilateral Fund of Inter-American Council for Integral Development (FEMCIDI) of the OAS.
The training was conducted by Guillermo Levinton and Rina Fainstein, both specialists of the Golda Meir-Mount Caramel International Training Center (MCTC) of Haifa, Israel as part of the ongoing cooperation between MCTC and YABT to foster entrepreneurship in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Through a practical methodology and field exercises, participants learned how to create a company and experienced a simulated business environment. They also took study visits and learned from the Israeli experience on how to encourage the creation of new businesses that can contribute to the country's economy growth.
The start-up companies made crafts, beauty products and indigenous foods which were presented at a business fair held at the main campus of the Universidad Tecnologica de Panama.
"We learned more about finance and business planning. We hope to launch our products next year," said Angela Navarro, from the Universidad Latina de Panama, in province Chiriqui, who is working on her business case and works with young entrepreneurs in her province, promoting entrepreneurship and innovation.
Also, other participants expressed their satisfaction with the training and showed their willingness to share these initiatives for benefiting women in their communities and institutions. The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) will continuously follow up with them in replicating their experiences and support generating a greater economic and social impact in respective communities.
