Young Entrepreneurs Receive Prizes from YABT/ OAS for Innovative Projects in TIC Americas 2008

The International community celebrates the entrepreneurial talents of the youth from the Americas, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia, with the presentation of prizes to eight teams whose projects are Winners in the finals of the Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas), previous to the XXXVIII General Assembly of the Organization of los American States (OAS).

The awards were given in eight categories:

Spirit of Entrepreneurship
MLC Tecnología Educativa - Colombia
Virtual learning community
Social Entrepreneurship
MusiCrom - Colombia
Development of software to allow visually impaired people to recognize colors and forms by musical melodies
Tradition and Culture
Artesano - Colombia
Gourmet food from nutritive ingredients
New Markets
Alsec - Colombia
Innovative raw materials for food industry
E-Business
Virta Localización Satelital - Mexico
Internet-based security solutions
Creative Design
Alebrije - Mexico
Videogame production
International Alliance
Sea Sahara Sky - Morocco

Among the personalities that gave the awards to the winning teams, we can mention the Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, Ambassador Albert R. Ramdin; the Governor of Antioquia, Mr. Luis Alfredo Ramos Botero; the representative of Global TIC, Mr. Steven Chien; the President of the Private Sector of the Americas, Mr. Ernesto Gutiérrez; the General Manager of Empresas Públicas de Medellín, Mr. Federico Restrepo and the President of the Board of Directors of YABT, Ambassador Denis Antoine, among others. The President of Colombia, H.E. Alvaro Uribe also congratulated the winners at the closing ceremony of the V Private Sector Forum.


The winners of TIC Americas 2008 will receive other additional prizes such as follow-up during the "Week 2 Grow", organized by the chapter of YABT- México. The Week 2 Grow is a five-day event dedicated to the entrepreneurship, in which will be promoted the creation of projects through training, exhibition, commercialization and business networking and investment through the participation of the relevant sectors of America, Asia and Europe. The Young Americas Business Trust is an initiative of the private sector that works in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the OAS, with the purpose of reducing poverty and unemployment basing it on the skills advancement and training of young entrepreneurs for the generation of sustainable businesses.
