The Peace Fund of the Organization of American States (OAS) in coordination with the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) and the government of Israel will provide two scholarships, one for a Belizean citizen and one for a Guatemalan citizen, to be trained in rural tourism at the Golda Meir International Center - Mount Carmel of Israel.
Up to thirty persons from more than twenty countries will participate in the course "The Small Business of Rural Tourism as an Income Generator". The course will be held from July 26th to August 12th, 2009 in Haifa, Israel.
The requirements to apply for the scholarship are:
- Be a citizen of Guatemala or Belize.
- Be fluent in Spanish.
- Must not be older than 50 years old.
- Have completed university studies related to tourism planning, economics, business administration, or areas related to the subject of the workshop.
- Be currently involved in: planning and elaboration of national or regional policies that support the creation of employment in rural areas and tourism planning.
- Be part of governmental or nongovernmental institutions or other organizations involved in the development of small businesses, with a minimum experience of 5 years.
- Be committed in a long term basis to transmit the knowledge learned by functioning as a trainer in workshops of the OAS in the adjacency zone between Guatemala and Belize.
The scholarship of the Peace Fund of the OAS provides the airline tickets (round-trip) from the country of origin to Israel in economy class. The scholarship granted by the YABT and the Government of Israel covers the cost of the course, study tours, printed materials, accommodation in a double occupancy room during the course and health insurance.
