Youth voice is heard in the XL OAS General Assembly

As part of the XL OAS General Assembly with the theme "Peace, Prosperity and Partnership", the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) presented the recommendations of Youth to Heads of Delegations of the OAS on 06 June last 2010 in Lima, Peru.

Gerardo Robinson, a young Panamanian who was representing the YABT and through dialogue between civil society and the highest authorities of the OAS, presented the voice of young people in the hemisphere and the importance of including youth in the national agendas of the countries in the region. "The OAS can provide an opportunity for youth to be recognized as a social actor and independent sector with unique perspectives," said Gerardo in his speech.

The contributions of young people on the mainland were obtained through a dialog with title "Youth Participation in the OAS," organized by the YABT in cooperation with the Youth Department of the OAS before the Assembly. This event was attended by Amb. Albert Ramdin, Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, and with young people from countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, United States, Grenada, Guatemala, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago and Uruguay, serving as a forum for participants to make known their vision of the role to be played by young people in the hemisphere.

Further to the presentation, the YABT promote the implementation of the recommendations through their programs and the support of their national and international partners as well as the OAS.

The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) is an international non-profit organization founded in 1999 that works in cooperation with the Organization of American States (OAS), with the aim of promoting the development of young entrepreneurs through its programs and projects in the areas of Leadership, Training, Technology, Strategic Alliances and National Chapters.
